America’s Food Dilemma

In today’s hectic world, people are finding it more difficult every day to squeeze a healthy meal into their demanding schedules. Our society has been taught that quick, cheap meals can be purchased without leaving your car! How convenient is that!

Sadly, the foods that are chosen are quick and cheap, but highly processed and lack vital nutrients. What is more disappointing is people today are not as likely to consider fruits and vegetables as a quick meal. Can you think of any drive-thru’s that offer fresh fruits and vegetables? Probably not. Think about your local grocery store. How much of the store is dedicated to fresh produce? Not enough! Does it also seem as though obesity, diseases, and cancers are on the rise? If you asked someone if they would swallow a cancer pill once a day, their reaction would most likely be something like this, “Heck no! Are you insane?” Yet, every time we make a food choice, we give our money a voice expressing our desires. We all want a lifetime abundance of health, or do we?

This current lifestyle has moved our culture further and further away from our food source, the farmer. After all, what would our world be like without farmers? Farmers are critical to our very existence, but how often do you think about farmers on a daily basis? In what ways might you support a farmer? You may not know a farmer personally, but their survival depends on you, the consumer. Consider this: farmers decide what to grow, and how much, based on what foods you purchase from day to day. How is that for having an impact?

Make sure your money is conveying the right message. Support farmers! Better yet, support your local farmers. Even better, support your local organic farmers! They need you as much as you need them.
